Leelanau Cellars Great Lakes Red
Michigan isn’t known for its red wines, although I much prefer them to that of the California variety. The flavors that come out of Northern Michigan seem much more bold and filling. This isn’t a very bold red wine, nor is it especially flavorful, but it is plentiful in grocery stores and easy to drink. It’s a bit too sweet to have with a meal, but I like to open a bottle while I’m cooking or to use in a sauce or to get the crust off the bottom of a pan when I’ve been cooking white onions and chicken for a savory mix of flavors that turns a regular chicken breast into something more enticing.
Leelanau Cellars is a nice winery in Omena, Michigan. They’re family owned and operated, and see over 40,000 visitors a year. They’ve got wine in cans and are most often known for their Witches Brew Spice Wine, Great Lakes Table Red, and Winter White, although they’ve got a lot more. including a series of fruit wines, the Lakeshore Collection, and the Tall Ship Collection.
